Summertime Camping: Keeping Cool

Here we are…right in the middle of the dog days of summer, but it’s also prime camping season! Don’t let rising temperatures ruin your getaways. Following a few simple guidelines when you’re summertime camping can help keep you on track for memory-making as well as keep you safe.

Avoidance

I don’t mean totally avoid the outdoors altogether, but you should limit your outdoor activities between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the hottest part of the day. Use this time for indoor fun! Or napping. A nap is always a good idea!

Be a Fan of the Fan

An oscillating fan can be one of the greatest investments you can make while summer camping. We use one outside when we are lounging around and we even keep one in each bedroom to keep the air moving while we’re sleeping.

Made in the Shade

Being outside is one of the best things about camping, but during those long summer days, enjoy the outdoors from beneath the shade of a tree.

Enjoy a Cold Drink

One of the most important things you can do while spending any length of time outside during the summer months is stay hydrated. Make sure you drink plenty of water!

Take a Dip

Cool off by taking a dip in the pool, lake, or ocean! Spending some quality time in the water will help cool you off as well as relax your muscles.

Time spent camping is never a bad time if you’re smart about how you spend it and remember to use sunblock if you’re going to be out in the heat. Don’t over-do it when it comes to outdoor activities and make sure you stay hydrated. Most importantly, have fun!
