Whenever your RV is stationary for a long period of time you can sometimes have problems with pests such as mice, ants, and other bugs. Along with being a nuisance, mice can also damage the electrical systems in your RV. Here are some RV Pest Control Tips to help you prevent and deal with some common pests if you encounter them in your RV.
Prevent Pests From Entering
The first thing you should try to do is to prevent pests from getting into your RV. Check the bottom of the RV for any gaps or holes that pests could get in from. You should then try to fill in any gaps. Duct tape is one easy way to close the gaps. Expanding foam is also a good option because it’s easy to remove later if you need to work on the RV.
Repelling Pests
To deter rodents while your RV is stored, some people recommend using mothballs. One method is to place mothballs in containers with a lid and poke holes in the lid, allowing the mothball odor to flow out. You can also scatter some additional mothballs throughout your RV. One downside is the smell and the chemicals in the mothballs.
Another way to get rid of mice is by using a natural peppermint oil. Mice are known to hate the smell and avoid it. This is a good option if you don’t want to worry about the smell or chemicals in mothballs. Simply put some peppermint oil on some cotton balls and spread them around your RV while in storage.
Traps
If pests are already in your RV, you can use traps to get rid of them. Mousetraps work well for rodents. Glue traps work for rodents as well as insects and any other pests that cross their path. There are also many commercial products you can use to deter or kill insects at your local home improvement or RV store.
