Campground Etiquette

When camping it is good to know some camping etiquette for common courtesy. A little bit of courtesy can help make camping a better experience for everyone. Here are a few tips that will help give you good campground etiquette:
1.) First, you should be familiar with the campgrounds rules. The rules can vary from campground to campground so it is important to know what is and isn’t allowed at your current campground.
2.) Most campgrounds have quiet hours at night. Noise and voices can carry farther than you think in campgrounds. During these times try to keep the volume down.
3.) Respect other people and don’t walk across their camp site.
4.) Never use live trees for campfires, use only dead wood on the ground. Some campgrounds don’t allow gathering firewood at all, but they usually sell firewood at campground stores.
5.) Build campfires only in a provided fire pit and don’t try to burn any metal like tin or aluminum cans.
6.) Never leave a campfire unattended and make sure it is completely out before you go to bed.
7.) It is a nice gesture to leave some firewood for the next campers at the campsite.
8.) Don’t litter and be sure to clean up after yourself at your campsite. It is good etiquette to try to leave the campsite cleaner than when you left it.
9.) Don’t dump anything in water sources such as rivers or lakes.
10.) Recycle whenever possible, many campgrounds have options for recycling.
11.) If you bring a pet, be sure to clean up after it. Also keep it quiet.
12.) Don’t drive nails into trees to hang lanterns or other things up. This can damage the tree.
13.) Don’t feed wild animals. After you feed them, they tend to stick around.
