One of the newest trends in outdoor adventures is "glamping" or glamorous camping. Glamping is for those who want to enjoy a campfire and fall asleep listening to nature's symphony but don't want to sleep on the bumpy, hard ground in a leaky tent. More and more people are choosing this alternative as a "green" getaway.
Glamping has been popular in England and Africa for many years and is gaining popularity in the US and Canada. Depending on the property you choose to visit, accomodations and amenities vary from just the bare necessities to downright luxury. Glampers may be required to bring the basics, such as food, towels and bedding, while at other resorts, everything is often included.
Accommodations are very diverse as well. Most glamping facilities feature teepees, canvas tent structures, yurts, and thatched huts. Others include cabins, lodges, or Airstream caravans. Some of the more high-end destinations feature hot tubs, saunas, spas, and gourmet restaurants.
In my opinion, this new "glamping" fad is a good thing! Although I would rather go RV-ing in my own camper, this could definitely introduce camping to people that would never try it otherwise. It's a great way to try camping out before investing in your own equipment.
